Katherine BattlePostdoctoral Researcher, Malaria Atlas Project (MAP)
Katherine’s first degree was in Biology and Secondary Education and she completed her MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2009 where her research focus was on malaria entomology. Following field work in Kenya, she joined MAP in 2010 and worked on the first steps to developing a global atlas of infectious disease. Katherine's interests lie in the application of epidemiology and geographic information systems to questions that are essential to the control of malaria and other infectious diseases. In 2015 Katherine completed her DPhil, which investigated the global burden of Plasmodium vivax malaria. She analysed the spatial variation in P. vivax relapse rates and the association between prevalence and incidence to generate estimates of clinical burden of this disease.
Since completing her DPhil, Katherine was appointed as a Postdoctoral Researcher with MAP. Katherine will provide technical support in risk mapping to the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), which supports national malaria control programs to accelerate efforts to reduce malaria transmission towards elimination, to improve spatial decision making in elimination settings.
